We were up in Scotland for the first time for the Bonanza last year, the closest previously being at Berwick. Glasgow's Promotion had been very keen to stage the meeting as part of their drive to make Ashfield Stadium one of the most prominent venues in British Speedway.
An early last-to-first ride by Chris Harris was a highlight of the event. The home riders were to the fore early on with Richie Worrall (6), Aaron Summers and Richard Lawson (5) amongst the leaders after two rides, along with Harris also on 5.
New Edinburgh man Ricky Wells was scoreless off 15 metres after a tapes offence in heat 3, but he made up for that with 4 immaculate victories. He joined Lawson, Harris and Richie Worrall in a final won by Lawson.
Three riders unattached at the time took part - David Howe, James Sarjeant and Theo Pijper. All found clubs at some point during the season.
